Girls’ Weekend in Margaret River

4
Feb

Planning for a girl’s weekend away shouldn’t be stressful, it should be part of the fun! Whether you’re looking to get away for a hen’s party or just looking to escape the city with the girls for a few days, let us help you plan the perfect weekend…

Margaret River is the perfect location for a girls’ weekend.  Wine, cheese and chocolate… What more could a girl want? Ryan Gosling you say?

There are many amazing towns down the cost of Western Australia, but Margaret River has to be the pick of them all, combining beaches, wineries and beautiful landscapes in every direction.

Heading down to Margaret River is about a 3.5 hour drive from Perth.  If you are leaving on a Friday, try to be on the road by at least 3pm- don’t risk getting caught in the horrible Friday afternoon traffic! Remember to stock up on numerous lollies, chocolate, trashy magazines and a selection of karaoke suitable music for the trip down.

Where To Stay

There are many places to stay in Margaret River and each offers something a little bit different. Remember when looking at where to stay- there is Margaret River the town, and Margaret River the region. If you want to be in town make sure the accommodation you’re looking at is there!

These are a few of our favourites places to stay at:

  • Margaret River House and Spa RetreatLocated a few streets back from the main strip of Margaret River. The house is very cosy and the spa is always a bonus.
  • Urban Tree House Margaret River Everything you need for a group. With a spacious living room and kitchen, there is plenty of room to hang out together while giving you some space to yourself as well.
  • Bushland Retreat Perfect for a large group, sleeping 12 people easily. It boasts a large deck that makes for a perfect venue for evening drinks.

What To Do – Friday Night

Heading out for a few drinks and dinner at Gnarabar, one of the best venues in Margaret River, is the perfect start to the weekend. They serve amazing tapas and espresso martinis that will get the party started.

Another option in Margaret River is Settler’s Tavern, which was last year voted WA Best Live Entertainment Venue Award and WA Best Casual Pub Dining Award by AHA. This is always a popular one with the locals.

What To Do – Saturday

Whether you’re looking for something relaxed, adventurous or cultural, it is not hard to find something to do on a Saturday in Margaret River! There is caving, surfing, bushwalking, markets…

But you are in one of Australia’s most celebrated wine regions, so our pick would be to do a wine tour! You can always drive between cellar doors yourself and this is always fun, but a wine tour means you get local advice and the added bonus that you don’t have to count your drinks.

Most tours cost around $95 a head and start at 10am and finish around 5pm, depending on how the day goes.

These are some of our favourites- most visit the fabulous Evans & Tate Redbrook Cellar Door:

  • Wine for Dudes – Don’t be scared off by the name, they cater for ladies too! The daily wine tour includes 4 wineries, 2 gourmet food producers, a brewery and lunch.
  • Bushtucker River & Wine Tour – Includes pick up and drop off to your accommodation, tastings throughout the day and lunch. They generally visit 5 wineries/breweries, cocktail and liquor tasting and visit the cheese and chocolate companies.
  • Margies Big Day Out Wine Tour The full day tour includes pick up and drop off to your accommodation, tastings throughout the day and lunch. They generally visit 3 wineries, 2 breweries and the cheese and chocolate companies.

Pick up a few bottles of your favourite wines from the day, some cheese and chocolate, to enjoy as a group back at the hotel!

What To Do – Sunday

Leaving a girls’ weekend away is always hard. To ease the transition back to the real world, we find breakfast in Dunsborough, a 20 minute drive from Margaret River, is the perfect ending. Try Artezen, which always delivers. You should also pop into Tas’s Bakery in Dunsborough to pick up some snacks for the trip home- they have the best sausage rolls in the region!
